Steroids, coloring, and goodbyes

I am currently receiving my second dose of Cytarabine. It only takes 4 hours this time, as opposed to 24 hours during the first round. The Fludarabine is the only new ingredient this time around, but I haven't been experiencing any side effects. What I have noticed is the higher dose of steroids that I'm on, and the higher dose of Ondansetron, the anti-nausea drug. I guess steroids can help boost appetite, which could explain why I ate almost an entire giant burrito that David brought me, followed by a strawberry protein smoothie.

It was a notable day for hair. I'd been pulling out wads of hair and getting frustrated trying to pick up the long strands from my sheets and clothes with a lint roller. So first thing this morning, I snipped off four braids of hair. I was aiming for at least six, but I just didn't have enough hair left. Or dexterity for braiding. With the braids snipped off, I cut my hair singlehandedly. I don't mean I did it by myself, which is also true. I mean I did it with one hand. For the most part. I roped my left hand in for a few of the tricky spots, but I can say that an almost passable haircut is possible with one hand. I mean, I guess it depends on what your idea of "passable" is. I know it's uneven all over, but I feel comfortable walking around in public without putting a bag over my head. I guess that's what passable means for me.

Another item of note: my favorite med student, Cara, is moving on to her rural rotation, which happens to be back home in La Veta, Colorado. I have never been there, and had to look it up on a map. It's in Southern Colorado, and has a population of 800. That is indeed rural. Cara is looking forward to living with her mom. I wish you all the best, Cara!

Cara and me, and my single-handed haircut
One more thing. I have to brag just a little. I was able to color today for more than five minutes, which I will also attribute to steroids. I'd like to dedicate this to the Kellys, who provided the book of postcards and the colored pencils. Thank you!

coloring is neat
